Beyond Intuition:
Making Better Branch Placement Decisions

Despite the increasing popularity of online channels and electronic payment technologies, the branch remains most banks’ primary acquisition, customer service, sales, and marketing channel. It is no surprise, then, that de novo branch expansion continues to accelerate across the country. Effective placement of branches can help drive deposit growth and revenue generation, build more effective customer sales and service teams, and reinforce an institution’s value proposition in the right ways to the right people. Too often, however, placement decisions are driven by intuition and a broad sense of where growth is occurring, rather than on concrete, ground-level information on where the real opportunities are based on the strategy of an organization.

This discussion will present and explain analysis frameworks, methodologies, metrics, and implementation considerations for making fact-based branch placement and network management decisions. Topics will include:

  • Recent branch growth in the U.S. – where, and why
  • Prioritizing markets for expansion
  • Evaluating and confirming specific branch sites
  • Allocating branch resources
  • Additional considerations for achieving branch channel success

This program is appropriate for senior financial executives with responsibility for Strategy, Channel Management, Distribution Management, Network Management, Sales Effectiveness and Market Research.
